26.08.2009 | The UNESCO edition ICT Competency Standards for Teachers: Policy Framework comes out in Russian
The first booklet of UNESCO series "ICT Competency Standards for Teachers" has been translated into Russian and published by the Russian IFAP Committee and its working body, the Interregional Library Cooperation Centre, with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The booklet makes recommendations for curricula in training teachers in the sphere of information and communication technologies.

Mr Koichiro Matsuura, UNESCO Director-General, made an address at the guest house of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the framework of the project World’s “Golden” Lectures on July 22, 2009. Dedicated to the preservation of cultural and linguistic diversity, his address highlighted Russia’s honourable contribution to the International Year of Languages.

The Baikal International Information Forum on the implementation of the Information Society Development Strategy in Russia, held in Ulan-Ude, finished on June 27, 2009. The forum paid special attention to the emergence of digital television, the development of the latest information technologies, and the establishment of electronic libraries.

The 7th research and practical conference, Corporate Library Systems: Technologies and Innovations, was held on June 14-19, 2009. It was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the St Petersburg State Polytechnic University, and ARBICON (non-profit partnership Association of Regional Library Consortiums). The Russian Committee of the UNESCO Information for All Programme and the Interregional Library Cooperation Centre were its co-organizers.

A conference of the representation heads of Rossotrudnichestvo (the Federal Agency for the Affairs of the CIS, Ethnic Russians Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) was held in Moscow on June 17-18, 2009. It gathered Rossotrudnichestvo representatives from 68 countries of the CIS, Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, and representatives of federal executive and legislative bodies of the Russian Federation, public organizations and the mass media.
