International conference Internet and Socio-Cultural Transformations in Information Society took place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk 8–12 September 2013 within the framework of the Russian chairmanship in the UNESCO Information for All Programme. This first-ever international forum on the topic has become an attempt to develop a comprehensive understanding of the direction, dynamics, character, scope, driving forces, content and results of socio-cultural changes under the impact of the Internet and other ICTs as they are spreading worldwide.
07.03.2013 | 21st meeting of the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Council for the Information for All Programme
The annual meeting of the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Council for IFAP took place at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris on February 28, 2013, under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation. Mr. Evgeny Kuzmin, Chair of the IFAP Intergovernmental Council, presided over this Meeting. Among the attendees were all Bureau members who represent Austria, Latvia, the Philippines, Colombia, Grenada, United Republic of Tanzania, Sultanate of Oman, Belgium and the Russian Federation. Among the attendees was Mr. Janis Karklins, UNESCO Assistant Director General for Information and Communication, and Indrajit Banerjee, Director of the Knowledge Society Division, UNESCO, Secretary of the Intergovernmental Council for IFAP.

Special Event of the UNESCO Information for All Programme took place at the UNESCO's headquarters in Paris on February 27, 2013, within the framework of the First WSIS+10 Review Meeting. This Special Event was organized by the IFAP Intergovernmental Council, which is being chaired now by the Russian Federation, and UNESCO Knowledge Society Division. Entitled Information and Knowledge for All: Emerging Trends and Challenges, this Event consisted of a set of panel sessions on several key issues: information accessibility, information preservation, media and information literacy, information for development, information ethics, and development of multilingualism in cyberspace.

30 experts and policy specialists from 25 Countries Argentine, Bahamas, Belize, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador El Salvador, Guyana, Grenada, Guatemala, Jamaica Mexico, Peru Suriname, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and Grenadines, St. Martin, Uruguay and Venezuela will gather in Kingston from 5 to 8 March 2013 to develop strategies and a road map to implement open access policies in the Latin American and Caribbean Region.

First WSIS+10 Review MeetingTowards Knowledge Societies for Peace and Sustainable Developmentwas heldat the UNESCO's headquarters in Paris from 25 to 27 of February 2013. After the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which took place in Geneva in 2003, this Review Meeting became the major international forum which addressed the humanitarian aspects of the application of information and communication technologies.
