International Conference “Law and Internet” Concluded in Moscow

Experts in legal and ethical cyberspace issues from West-European and Central-Asian countries met earlier this month in Moscow, Russian Federation, at the 6th International Conference “Law and Internet”. The Conference was organized within the Framework of UNESCO’s Information for All Programme.
The conference, that ended on 7 October 2004, brought together legal experts, experts in the field of education, science, culture, communication and ICT, members of the internet-community, and other professionals. It was organized by the Russian Committee of UNESCO Information for All Programme (IFAP), the Ministries of Culture and Mass Communication and of Information Technologies and Connection of the Russian Federation, the Higher School of Economy of the State University, the UNESCO Office in Moscow and the Global Internet Policy Initiative Foundation (GIPI).
“The conference was one of the preparatory events of the forth-coming International Forum “UNESCO between the two phases of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)” that we organize next year in St. Petersburg”, said Evgeniy Kuzmin, President of the Russian IFAP Committee. Items on the Conference’s agenda included discussions on access to the state information resources, intellectual property rights in cyberspace, legal aspects of ICT in education and information preservation. |
