International Conference "Personal Information Culture: Information Society Challenges"

The International Conference "Personal Information Culture: Information Society Challenges" took place in Moscow, Russian Federation, November 2 - 3, 2006. The aim of the interdisciplinary conference is to discuss the issues of personal information culture in dynamic, rapidly changing world of global information society.

Observation and research on information literacy and personal information culture, made in Russia within UNESCO IFAP implementation, brought noteworthy results and important conclusions on the ways and means to enhance human potential in the information society. Methods of forming integral personal information culture have been elaborated and tested in educational establishments and libraries of the Kemerovo Region, Siberea. Prerequisites have been made for more extensive use of those methods in the educational routine in Russia and other UNESCO member-states. Those achievements were repeatedly announced in and outside Russia to always arouse great interest. Major results have been obtained and considerable practical experience stored.

The conference objectives are the following:

to integrate theoretical achievements of different knowledge areas (philosophy, culturology, pedagogics, sociology, law, informatics, library science, bibliography science, etc.) for personal information culture development;
to analyse the experience of Russian educational and library institutions in personal information culture building;
to promote the unique experience of the Kuzbass Research and Development Institute for Information Technologies in Social Sphere in development and implementation of the personal information culture concept;
to disseminate education and training materials and technologies of personal information culture building developed by the Kuzbass Research and Development Institute for Information Technologies in Social Sphere;
to attract attention on international professional community to the Russian experiences in personal information culture development.

The main conference topics:

actuality and social importance of information culture of a person in information society;
personal information culture as an integrative branch of researches;
the concept of personal information culture development;
prerequisites for implementation of the personal information culture concept;
personal information culture building technology based on a system of varied education and training materials;
mechanisms of the personal information culture implementation on national, regional and local levels.
