Conference of the heads of Rossotrudnichestvo representations
2009-19-06 (Moscow)
A conference of the representation heads of Rossotrudnichestvo (the Federal Agency for the Affairs of the CIS, Ethnic Russians Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) was held in Moscow on June 17-18, 2009. It gathered Rossotrudnichestvo representatives from 68 countries of the CIS, Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, and representatives of federal executive and legislative bodies of the Russian Federation, public organizations and the mass media.
In the light of Russia’s closer cooperation with the other CIS countries, the conference was called upon to improve coordination of overseas Rossotrudnichestvo offices with its central office, and practical measures to make overseas offices more effective.
Rossotrudnichestvo head Farit Mukhametshin said: “We expect Russian science & culture centres abroad to develop into full-fledged multi-functional cultural information centres of the Russian Federation with relevant material and technical bases and personnel that would worthily represent Russia in other countries.”
That is why the establishment of new Russian science & culture centres and improved performance of the available ones through modernizing their traditional patterns and the introduction of leading-edge technologies and means of communication with the foreign public are on the Rossotrudnichestvo priority list, Mr Mukhametshin said.
Rossotrudnichestvo and the Federal Guard Service of the Russian Federation are working, with active assistance of the Russian Committee of the UNESCO Information for All Programme, to establish centres of public access to Russian legal information at the Russian science & culture centres. More than 100 such information centres are active presently in Hungary, France, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Finland, including centres opened on the basis of public libraries in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine (information from http://www.rusintercenter.ru).
