The collection «Preservation of Digital Information in the Information Society» just came out

Russian Committee of the UNESCO Information for All Program and the Interregional Library Cooperation Centre published the collection of papers of the international conference Preservation of Digital Information in the Information Society : Problems and Prospects», organized on 3-5 October 2011 in Moscow in the context of the chairmanship of Russia in the UNESCO Information for All Program. It was the first major international interdisciplinary forum on this topic both in Russian and UNESCO history.
The conference in Moscow gathered more than 150 heads and leading specialists of the largest libraries, archives, museums, research institutes, universities, international organizations, government bodies, media, publishing houses, centers of scientific and technical information, the ICT industry and other institutions, interested in developing the topic of preservation of digital information, from 37 countries worldwide.
The book was prepared with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for Print and Mass Media. The publication of the collection was done using the funds of the grant of the President of the Russian Federation to support the creative projects of national importance in the field of culture and art (Order of the President of the Russian Federation on March 20, 2012 ¹ 95-pï).
The book discusses general approaches to the study of the preservation of digital information and activities in this area from the points of view of different subjects, as well as policy and education for the preservation of digital information. The materials of the book represent national approaches, solutions, visions on preservation of text documents and audiovisual information.
The collection is designed for heads and employees of governmening bodies, institutions of culture, science and education, professionals of the information sphere, as well as for anyone interested in the preservation of digital information.
Book publishers hope that the facts, opinions, views and experience will contribute to comprehensive development and improvement of activities in the field of long-term preservation of digital information, to shapening of balanced and comprehensive policy in this area, both at the governmental and institutional levels.
